NAWIC Among the Lights

Zoolight holiday trainIt’s lights…it’s colors…it’s creative and mesmerizing. It’s the holiday season aglow. It’s Zoolight Safari at the Birmingham Zoo. This year, more than 500,000 lights warm the night in festive, silly, and fun shapes and entire scenes of wonder.

In support of the zoo’s big fundraiser, members of the National Association of Women In Construction Birmingham chapter braved the cold to help kids and adults alike enjoy the season while helping this worthy mission. Alabama Graphic’s Michele Dunn, a member of NAWIC, kept the kids entertained as they waited for the Holiday Train. “I showed them pictures of my dog sitting with Santa, and they got a kick out of that and then would tell me about their dogs.” She says the talking snowman enthralled the kids the most because he would talk back and respond to their comments, causing much giggling and gaping “O’s” of silence.

You can still enjoy the lustrous, entertaining sites yourself. It runs all this week though Sunday, January 2, from 5pm-9pm. Admission is FREE for zoo members and $8 for non-members. Pay a bit more and ride the Holiday Express Train throughout the zoo or enjoy the Jingle Bell Carousel. Other temptations include Santa’s Rock ‘n Roller Racers, Winter Trail Ride, story time, animal demos and more!
